We are looking for an individual who is organized, highly-motivated and results-oriented to join a dynamic team and help bring lasting health change in Africa, to fill the following position in the Strengthening HIV Strategic Information in Kenya (ADAM) Project funded by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). 
The project’s purpose is to develop and support implementation of monitoring and evaluation (M&E) strategies and tools to track programmatic activities and develop reports for decision making and project improvement. 
The project is implemented by AMREF in collaboration with DANYA international, AfriAfya and ICF Macro.

Capacity Building Advisor

The position reports to the Project Manager and is based in Nairobi.

(1 Year 6 Months Contract)

Purpose of the Job:

The Capacity Building Advisor will be responsible for the day-to-day management of capacity building activities. 
S/he will ensure timely and efficient achievement of the project objectives by coordinating partner activities, planning stakeholder meetings, budgeting and program implementation for the capacity building component of the project.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:-
  • Develop capacity building strategy and an implementation plan for various target audiences in collaboration with the Ministry of Health.
  • Oversee and manage the capacity building program expenditures, ensure the budget is strictly adhered to, and financial procedures are respected.
  • Provide technical advice to project advisory committee regarding capacity building and lead innovation in capacity building approaches.
  • Identify and recruit competent facilitators for training courses.
  • Liaise with the County Health Management Team to identify the participants for M&E training and develop strategies for monitoring and mentoring of the trained healthcare workers,
  • Share the capacity building strategies with the implementation team and the GOK and identify potential areas for funding and implement them if and when approved/funded.
  • Monitor the implementation progress against the M&E framework.
  • Manage the project staff and supervise the trainees and facilitators while documenting and disseminating information on training activities.
  • Oversee all aspects of management, monitoring, evaluation and reporting of the capacity building activities and also manage the procurement and distribution of training materials and supplies.
  • Ensure all stakeholders are involved during the forums for sharing lessons learnt and best practices in M&E capacity building activities.
  • Spearhead development of tools for capacity building needs assessment and develop training materials based on the identified gaps.
  • Develop and maintain a database of healthcare workers who have been trained and mentored.
  • In collaboration with the M&E TWG, organize and implement activities such as workshops, on the job training and sharing of best practice that provide capacity building opportunities to healthcare workers and staff of local institutions to enhance institutional learning.
  • Participate in joint activities organized by the GOK HMIS, NASCOP, TWGs and/or the donor.
Qualifications and Competencies:-
  • The ideal candidate must have a Master’s Degree in Social Sciences and at least 4 years’ experience in capacity building, monitoring and evaluation or any other relevant field. 
  • Remarkable ICT skills, in-depth knowledge of curriculum development and a good understanding of budgets are essential to the position. S/he must possess excellent team leadership, planning and organization skills. 
  • Drive for results, coaching, mentoring and analytical thinking are pertinent to the position. 
  • The candidate should have strong administrative, supervisory, communication, interpersonal and relationship maintenance skills. The ability to translate new ideas into practical solutions, resourcefulness, initiative and the ability to work with minimal supervision are mandatory.
